With standards for the integrable and high performance SaaS offering

The fact that the SaaS offer has not yet been established nationwide is partly due to the lack of content-related standards. Ditmar Tybussek, Branch Manager Wiesbaden and Development Manager cierp3 at Allgeier IT Solutions, explains in an interview which challenges software providers face in order to survive in the market in the long term.

In 2012, the industry association Bitkom expects cloud revenue for the German market of more than 50 percent to more than € 5 billion. By 2015, the sales volume is expected to rise to 13 billion euros. However, there is still a long way to go, and to meet this goal, software vendors face challenges.
What do services like software as a service and other cloud offerings mean for our market today?

Ditmar Tybussek: Simple and flexibly scalable SaaS solutions offer companies noticeable advantages , as the rental variant allows the costs of the IT landscape to be adapted to the respective market situation. Demand-driven scalability is ensured by usage-based billing and monthly termination. The implementation effort and the cost of maintaining and updating the system are also kept to a minimum, while the solution is always up-to-date. In difficult market phases, for many companies, software systems or individual modules, some of which have long been needed, are only becoming affordable due to the low investment costs.
With standards for integrated and high-performance "Software as a Service" offer - future or reality?

Tybussek: The fact that the SaaS offer has not yet established itself comprehensively is, among other things, due to the lack of substantive standards of the SaaS offering. Although there are technological standards, such as web services (keyword: SOA) or communication standards, but for the smooth and above all secure communication of the applications with each other even more needed.

Ultimately, companies must ensure transaction security that the web service alone can not produce. For example, one requested web service provides item data, another provides order information, and another creates new customer master data. However, the extent to which this data is processed correctly by the system at the remote site is unfortunately not checked by the Web service to date.

Especially in mass data processing in large companies, the transaction security of web services is becoming increasingly important. For our own systems, for example, we can ensure this when submitting the web services. However, we are still quite alone with ERP providers in Germany today, as many manufacturers have not even recognized this problem, let alone solved it.

Sooner or later, we would like to establish a standard that guarantees the transaction security of the communicating systems - just as it has already been implemented in other areas with EDI or EDIFACT. However, this standard should not only ensure the complete and correct transmission of sensitive corporate data, but also the security of communication and the maintenance of access rights. Based on such a standard, all applications within the cloud can communicate securely and easily.
